Explore Elizabeth Quay's public art, bridge, island playground and water park, with a one-hour walk, ferry ideas, food stops and accessible facilities.
Compare Fremantle Prison tours, free gatehouse displays, accessibility and practical transport before planning your visit.
Plan a visit to WA Museum Boola Bardip: Otto the whale, Aboriginal stories, meteorites, family highlights, tickets, access and suggested gallery routes.
Plan a beach walk, swim or sunset at Cottesloe, with practical transport, facilities and access information.
Plan your Rottnest Island visit with ferry comparisons, beaches, cycling and bus routes, quokka viewing, Wadjemup history and current access information.
Plan a Perth Zoo visit with animal highlights, current ticket prices, keeper talks, a suggested route, ferry directions and practical family access advice.
Plan a visit to AQWA at Hillarys: shark tunnel, seadragons, coral displays, tickets, seasonal hours, family facilities and accessible transport advice.
Scitech is a hands-on science centre in West Perth with more than 100 interactive exhibits, live science experiences and planetarium shows included in general admission.
At Bull Creek, the Aviation Heritage Museum gives you room to get close to full-sized aircraft and to follow the people and engineering behind them. The hangars can get hot. The operator sometimes changes hours in extreme weather, so a summer visit is worth checking on the day.
Explore Fremantle Markets with Hall and Yard opening hours, named traders, food stops, building history, accessibility advice and a nearby walking route.
A compact 1 day Perth itinerary for central Perth, the Swan River, Kings Park and realistic museum or coast swaps.
A practical 2 day Perth itinerary pairing central Perth, Kings Park and the river with Fremantle, markets, heritage and coast options.
A balanced 3 day Perth itinerary for the city, Fremantle, coast and one bigger day trip such as Rottnest Island or Swan Valley.
A slower 7 day Perth itinerary for city culture, Fremantle, beaches, wildlife, Swan Valley, Perth Hills and Rottnest Island planning.
A weather-aware guide to indoor and covered attractions around Perth.
Plan an AGWA visit with current gallery hours, collection highlights, family activities, accessible facilities and transport advice.
A practical guide to Gallery Central, with current exhibitions, free entry, opening arrangements and directions to the correct campus building.
A practical guide to Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery in Crawley, with exhibition dates, temporary closure information, access facilities and transport advice.
Plan a PICA visit with current exhibition dates, free admission details, entrance directions during precinct works, parking and accessibility information.
The Army Museum sits inside Fremantle's Artillery Barracks. It follows the experience of soldiers and civilians connected with Western Australia through several conflicts and through peacetime service. This is an active Defence site with specific entry rules, so check those before setting out with a group.
Bells Rapids is best approached as a river walk with changing conditions, not as a guaranteed white-water spectacle. The bridge and surrounding countryside draw people during the Avon Descent and after winter rain. The river can rise quickly; the same water that makes the rapids dramatic makes the banks and rocks dangerous.
Bibra Lake offers two rather different outings. One is a slow walk beside a wetland where birds and changing water levels set the pace. The other is the large regional playground on Progress Drive. Plan for the one you want; its playground gate hours do not define access to every part of the surrounding reserve.
You can watch wetland birds without leaving Perth for a long country drive. Herdsman Lake, Galup and Bibra Lake each offer a different walk and a chance to slow down. The best outing is often a short stretch with good views, not a race around a whole lake. Species and numbers change with the season, water level and time of day.
Bold Park is a large piece of coastal bushland above City Beach. Its draw is walking among native vegetation and looking out from Reabold Hill, not manicured flowerbeds or an all-day picnic lawn. Start with the length and surface of the walk you want, especially if you have only an hour.
Plan around the staged Burns Beach foreshore redevelopment, keeping proposed facilities and target dates distinct from what is open now.
Plan Caversham Wildlife Park with koala and wombat experiences, current prices, a half-day schedule, train directions and family accessibility information.
Plan a City Beach visit around foreshore facilities, current beach conditions, patrol information and bookable accessibility equipment.
If you are tracing a Perth address, business, building or family, the City of Perth History Centre is a useful starting point. The City's current listing says the centre is closed to public visits. Its staff still accept enquiries by email or telephone. Do not follow an old “museum open today” listing into the library expecting to browse the centre in person.
Clarkson Reserve is on the Swan River in Maylands , not in the northern suburb of Clarkson. The name can send a map search in the wrong direction. Use 50 Clarkson Road as your destination for a relaxed river-edge stop with a playground and picnic facilities.
Perth's coast is easy to enjoy without making every outing a full-day hike. Compare six routes, their published distances or flexible turnaround points, path surfaces, transport and access before you go.
Use Cottesloe Foreshore for a coastal walk, picnic or beach view while checking parking, access and the seasonal main-beach enclosure.
A planning hub for nearby day trips, ferry outings, valleys, islands and coastal areas.
Plan a morning visit to FORM Gallery & Café in the former Goods Shed beside Claremont Station, with current exhibition, café and access-check details.
A family beach is usually decided by what surrounds the sand: toilets, somewhere to change, room to take a break and a route back to the car or train. Calm-looking water can change quickly, and an enclosure is not a substitute for watching children in the water.
The most satisfying day trip is usually one main activity, a meal or picnic and enough time to get home before everyone runs out of energy. These options differ in distance, price and how much walking a child will actually enjoy.
Start with the sort of evening you want. A market, a sit-down meal and a theatre performance need different plans, especially if you are relying on the last train or travelling with children. Perth CBD, Northbridge and Fremantle each work best as their own outing.
Fremantle is an area guide for markets, heritage sites, museums, food streets, galleries and coastal links.
Compare the different locations, facilities and access arrangements at Bathers, Leighton, Port and South Beach, with nearby Coogee kept distinct.
Fremantle is easiest with children when you anchor the day to one indoor stop and one outdoor stop. The waterfront, museum precinct and beach are close in a map view, but little legs and traffic crossings still shape the route.
Compare Perth trains, buses, ferries, airport transfers, taxis, rideshare, driving, parking, walking, cycling and e-scooters.
Hillarys Boat Harbour is a marina and waterfront precinct for Sorrento Quay, AQWA, dining, ferry departures, harbour walks and protected swimming.
Plan a visit to John Curtin Gallery at Curtin University in Bentley, with exhibition information, opening hours, parking and a guide to the separate city venue.
John Forrest rewards a full day more than a rushed waterfall stop. There are picnic sites, winter-flowing falls, historic railway country and tracks ranging from a short stroll to a more demanding walk. The park is also being improved, so check the current trail and parking notices before following an older map.
Lake Leschenaultia is a popular Hills swimming and picnic area, with sandy edges, shaded lawn and bushland beyond the beach. It can also close quickly in dangerous fire conditions. A visit works best when you check the lake notice on the day and treat the water, bike tracks and camping as separate activities with separate rules.
Plan a North Fremantle beach visit with picnic facilities, designated dog sections and bookable mobility equipment whose collection hours need checking.
Lesmurdie Falls is a Hills waterfall you can approach by a short lookout walk or fold into a longer bush circuit. Those are very different outings. The cascade is most dramatic after rain; a photograph of peak flow is not a promise of the same scene on a dry spring or summer day.
Mandurah can be a relaxed waterfront outing without committing to a cruise or a long sculpture hunt. Start at the foreshore, give the playground time, then decide whether everyone wants another stop.
Manning Park combines a lake-side picnic area with a more energetic climb above Hamilton Hill. You can enjoy the lower park without taking the stairs or the limestone Davilak trail. If the view across Cockburn Sound is your reason for going, allow for an uneven climb and changing weather on the ridge.
The water around Perth holds more than one kind of wildlife outing. A short shore snorkel reveals reef and seagrass life; a boat trip around Shoalwater may pass dolphins or Australian sea lions; a Rottnest day offers another coast altogether. These are wild animals in changing conditions. Plan for the place and the experience, not a guaranteed encounter.
Matagarup Bridge is a pedestrian and cycle link as well as a landmark. It joins East Perth with the Burswood stadium precinct across the Swan River. Walking the bridge gives you a different river view from driving past it; it does not require booking a commercial bridge climb.
Mini golf is a useful family outing because a round has a clear beginning and end. The differences are indoors versus outdoors, a daytime garden setting versus neon lighting, and how easily you can stop when a younger child has had enough.
Wellington Square is now commonly presented with its Noongar name, Moort-ak Waadiny . The playground and broad open space make it a good city stop with children, but a family can also use the lawns without queuing for equipment. Look at which part of the park suits your group before crossing the whole square.
Plan a Mullaloo Beach visit around the main surf-club area, current patrol flags, nearby facilities and first-come accessibility equipment.
Mundy Regional Park is a network of bushland, granite outcrops and viewpoints rather than one single car park. Lesmurdie Falls is the best-known stop, but there are shorter and longer routes through the wider park. Decide on a trailhead first; a map pin labelled only ‘Mundy’ may leave you far from the walk you intended.
The Museum of Perth looks at how the city has changed through its people, buildings and streets. It now occupies the old telephone exchange building on Murray Street. Older guides may give its former Atlas Building address; use the museum's current directions instead.
Choose a Perth night market with published dates, venue details, transport advice and clear seasonal updates.
The No 1 Pump Station at Minderinjy explains a problem central to the history of the Goldfields: how to move enough water hundreds of kilometres inland. It stands below Mundaring Weir on Whadjuk Nyoongar Country, in the area the National Trust calls Minderinjy.
Plan a North Cottesloe visit with clear distinctions between this open beach, the main Cottesloe enclosure and the separate Grant Street dog area.
Perth's Old Central Fire Station has a second life as the DFES Education and Heritage Centre. Come for historic fire engines and emergency-services stories, then check the centre's current session before you take a child into the city expecting it to be open.
Penguin Island is a small conservation island off Shoalwater with seasonal public access, seabird habitat, boardwalks and ferry-based visitor trips.
Perry Lakes Reserve offers wetland views and open recreation space in Floreat. It is easy to treat it as a quick lake photo stop, but the bird habitat, paths and grassed areas make a slower visit more rewarding. Choose a route that stays on designated paths around the water.
Browse Perth attractions by practical local areas, including Perth City, Fremantle, beaches, Swan River, Swan Valley, northern Perth, southern Perth, Perth Hills and Rottnest Island.
The Saturday market at Perth City Farm feels like a small city pause: fresh produce, a working garden and coffee in East Perth. Its seasonal hours change in December, so arrive for the correct morning rather than relying on the farm's weekday opening hours.
Plan a practical Perth City and inner-river day across the CBD, Northbridge, East Perth, West Perth, Kings Park, Burswood and ferry-linked South Perth.
Perth Cultural Centre is the multi-venue arts and culture precinct between Perth Station and Northbridge, bringing together WA Museum Boola Bardip, AGWA, PICA, the State Library and performance venues.
Find Perth Hills attractions including bushwalks, waterfalls, gardens, lookouts, heritage towns and scenic day trips from Perth.
Choose a practical Hills outing with five named destinations, realistic pairings, current access notes and useful official sources.
The Perth Hills offer different sorts of outings, from a grassy lake picnic to a waterfall lookout. Pick one place and its conditions before you set off; a bush trail can feel much longer with a tired child.
Perth Makers Market is an event series for goods handmade in Western Australia, not a permanent shop with daily hours. Most visitors will find the easiest starting point is the next event page: it names the location, time and participating makers. Dates can shift between Applecross and Burswood, so the venue matters as much as the market name.
Perth Upmarket turns Winthrop Hall and its surrounds at the University of Western Australia into a design market on selected Sundays. It is an occasional event, not an every-weekend market. The next date on the organiser's site as checked 25 September 2026 is Sunday 22 November 2026 .
A transport-aware guide for planning Perth attractions by train, bus, ferry and walking links.
Choose one part of the city before you choose the stops. A beach, a museum and a wildlife park can all look close on a zoomed-out map, but the journey between them can consume a child's afternoon. This guide pairs a location map with a list that works without map tiles or a mouse.
Plan one manageable Sunset Coast cluster from Cottesloe towards Two Rocks, with beach, harbour and transport comparisons.
Compare selected coastal stops from City Beach to Burns Beach by swimming conditions, reef visits, family facilities, access and current works.
Piney Lakes has both restored bushland and an established play area in Winthrop. The City of Melville’s EcoHub and the Bidi Katitjiny trail give it another layer beyond a normal playground stop. Choose the developed paths for an easy visit or allow extra time for the wetland and bushland trails.
Point Fraser offers a waterside walk with a purpose: its constructed wetland helps treat runoff before it reaches the Swan River. You can enjoy the skyline and boardwalk without needing an event ticket or a restaurant booking. Take time to read the interpretation and watch birds from the path.
Plan an ocean-beach stop in North Fremantle with current facilities, parking, access and shoreline-work checks.
Queens Gardens is an old-style city garden with waterlily ponds, lawns and trees. The Peter Pan statue gives children something to seek out, but the ponds and quieter corners are the reason to stay longer. It is a public garden, distinct from the former Queens Gardens car park discussed in separate city planning news.
Quokkas live wild on Wadjemup / Rottnest Island, and watching one forage can be the quiet highlight of a visit. They are not pets or performers. You may see them around the main settlement, or further along an island walk or ride. Give yourself time for the whole island rather than trying to arrange a close-up “quokka selfie.”
Revolutions at Whiteman Park tells a broader story than a collection of cars. It asks how people moved through Western Australia and how land transport changed work, settlement and daily life. The museum holds part of Lew Whiteman's collection and has several interactive displays, although historic vehicles are not all accessible inside.
Rockingham’s sheltered bays and islands give visitors a chance to see wild dolphins south of Perth. You can watch from shore, take a wildlife cruise or book a licensed in-water trip. Those are different experiences with different rules. No guide or boat can promise a dolphin will appear at a set time.
Plan a Scarborough Beach visit with swimming and surf advice, free Surf CAT transport, beach wheelchairs, facilities and a relaxed coastal outing.
Plan a Scarborough beachfront day around the ocean, heated pool, Whale Playground, free Surf CAT and access equipment.
Winter markets run on Saturdays through 24 October 2026. The organiser announces summer Thursday evenings from 5 November 2026 to 29 April 2027; confirm visitor hours and holiday exceptions.
Serpentine Falls is a popular day trip, especially when winter rain gives the cascade some force. The national park is also a place for short walks and longer trails. Its falls area can fill before midday, so a relaxed late start may end at a closed entrance even while the park’s published hours still appear on a search result.
Shoalwater Islands Marine Park covers coastal water and islands off Rockingham. You can enjoy the view from shore, book a wildlife cruise or, when access is permitted, take a ferry to Penguin Island. These choices have different costs and conditions. The park is home to sensitive habitat as well as popular water activities, so decide where you are going before launching a boat or entering the water.
Perth has rewarding snorkelling close to shore, but the right spot depends on the day. A sheltered reef pool, an underwater shipwreck and an island trail are three different swims. Check the wind, swell and your own comfort in open water before choosing one. No list of “best spots” can tell you what the sea will look like when you arrive.
Visit Sorrento ocean beach with current enclosure, redevelopment, facilities, mobility-equipment and harbour-planning checks.
Plan waterfront food, shopping and an inner-beach stop at Hillarys, with current timed-parking and harbour-works information.
The South Perth Foreshore is a chain of reserves, not a single lawn with one address. Sir James Mitchell Park, South Perth Esplanade, Mill Point and Clydesdale each give a slightly different angle across the Swan River. Decide whether you want the ferry, a playground, a picnic or a longer waterside walk before choosing where to start.
South Perth Heritage House is the former road board and council office in the Mends Street heritage precinct. It is now associated with the City of South Perth Historical Society. This is not the similarly named restaurant, and it is not the Old Mill on the riverbank.
Explore Southern Perth, Rockingham and Mandurah attractions including Penguin Island, Shoalwater, Adventure World, southern beaches and family day-trip ideas.
Compare selected coastal stops from South Fremantle to Rockingham for swimming, picnics, walks and accessible facilities.
Subi Farmers Market fills the Subiaco Primary School site on Saturday mornings. It is a community-run place to buy fresh produce and meet producers, not a daily market or a permanent row of the same vendors. Its short year-end break matters if you are visiting around Christmas or New Year.
Perth’s west-facing coast has beach breaks within reach of the city, and the waves can change quickly with swell, wind and tide. Trigg, Scarborough and Secret Harbour are useful places to compare, but none has one permanent skill rating. A beach that suits a lesson on a small day can be a poor choice for the same person when rips are running.
Find Swan River attractions including Elizabeth Quay, South Perth Foreshore, river walks, ferry links, parks and picnic places.
Plan a Swan Valley day trip with wineries, food stops, Guildford walks, family options and realistic half-day and full-day routes from Perth.
The Swan Valley has room for a family day that is not built around wine. Use a park or one bookable experience as the anchor, then leave time for a picnic and the drive home.
Plan the correct Swanbourne entrance with facilities, seasonal patrol, dog-area and northern clothing-optional guidance.
Explore Fremantle's WA Maritime Museum, from Australia II and pearling luggers to HMAS Ovens. Plan tickets, gallery highlights, access and a visit route.
Plan a smaller coastal stop with beach, playground, toilets and barbecues, plus current swimming and nearby walk checks.
Compare Perth whale-watching seasons, cruise departure points, current published fares and Rottnest shore lookouts.
Whiteman Park can fill most of a day: bushland, picnic areas, playgrounds and transport heritage are spread over a large site. Park entry is free , while museums, rides or booked activities may have separate prices and hours. Decide on a few stops instead of arriving at the main gate and expecting everything to be within one short walk.
A good animal day with children is one that suits their attention span, the weather and the journey home. Perth has free wetland walks, paid wildlife attractions and island trips. Choose one main activity and allow space for a snack or a change of plan. Wild animals may be out of sight; a booked zoo visit and a wetland birdwatch offer different kinds of certainty.
Wireless Hill has bushland walks and a very visible layer of communications history. The former radio-station buildings make this more than a wildflower stop, while the open grounds provide room for a picnic. A museum visit, however, needs its own opening check; park access does not guarantee the buildings are staffed.
Yagan Square is a public meeting place between Perth CBD and Northbridge, useful for a short family stop with public art, an adventure playground, a confirmed event or a meal rather than a full-day children's attraction.
Yokine Reserve is part of a busy regional open space used for sport, walking and play. It is not a single little playground. If you are meeting friends, agree on a landmark or side of the reserve first; the City lists several play areas and bookable sports space.
Use search when you know a place name, suburb, attraction type or practical need. Results are internal Perth Attractions guide pages, not live ticketing, transport or booking results.
If a search result looks too broad, open the closest area guide first, then narrow the plan from nearby links on that page.
