If you are tracing a Perth address, business, building or family, the City of Perth History Centre is a useful starting point. The City's current listing says the centre is closed to public visits. Its staff still accept enquiries by email or telephone. Do not follow an old “museum open today” listing into the library expecting to browse the centre in person.
| Current detail | City information |
|---|---|
| Public visits | Currently closed |
| Enquiries | Email or telephone via the City's listing |
| Listed location | City of Perth Library, Level 2, 573 Hay Street |
| Library | Separate service with its own hours and holiday closures |

What the centre can help with
The City's History Centre page links its local collection, City Library catalogue, older maps, street-name histories and requests for historic building plans. Start by noting the address and approximate year you are interested in. An old plan may sit in a different agency depending on the building and the year; the City explains where to request plans and points to other archives. If your question is about a person, a newspaper search and state records may be useful alongside the municipal collection.
The City's page gives Level 2, 573 Hay Street, but explicitly says “Currently closed to the public. All enquiries by email or telephone.” The City of Perth Library has separate opening hours and may close on public holidays. Going into the library does not mean you can enter the History Centre. Ask staff what can be searched online and whether an item needs a particular research request.
A realistic research plan
Write down spellings, date ranges and neighbouring street names; Perth street names and boundaries have changed. Cite the actual catalogue record when using a historic image or map and check reuse rights before publishing it. For a place you can currently visit without a research appointment, see the Museum of Perth and verify its own opening. The photograph shows the City Library building in 2016; it must not suggest the History Centre has reopened.
