FORM Gallery & Café, Claremont: visiting The Goods Shed

Plan a morning visit to FORM Gallery & Café in the former Goods Shed beside Claremont Station, with current exhibition, café and access-check details.

Last fact-checked: 2026-09-25

FORM Gallery & Café occupies the former Goods Shed beside Claremont Station. Its exhibition programme gives particular attention to artists from regional Western Australia, with coffee served alongside the gallery by El Cabro.

The address matters when planning a visit: this gallery is in Claremont, rather than at FORM's office in central Perth. Morning opening hours also make it worth checking the time before setting out.

Visitor information checked on 25 September 2026.

FORM is a Western Australian arts organisation. At its Claremont gallery, changing exhibitions and public programmes connect visitors with artists and creative work from across the state. The organisation describes regional artists as a particular focus, so the programme is worth checking if you want to see work beyond the larger city galleries.

The building also has a life before the gallery. The State Government entrusted FORM with converting the railway goods shed in 2015, and the arts space opened in 2016. If you remember visiting The Goods Shed, FORM Gallery & Café is the current name for that destination.

Choose your visit around the exhibition that interests you. An event advertised elsewhere on FORM's website may take place at another venue, so check the location as well as the date.

The listing does not establish that there are drop-in children's workshops every day. If you are planning a family visit around an activity, look for a separate session time and booking information. For later visits, use the exhibition links on the official gallery page to see what has replaced this programme.

Opening hours and the café

The current official visitor information gives the same morning hours for the gallery and café: 6:30am to noon. It also states that the venue closes on public holidays. These hours differ from the late-morning-to-afternoon timetable many visitors associate with art galleries.

If an exhibition is your main reason for travelling, confirm that it will be accessible at your intended arrival time. A quick call is particularly useful near an exhibition changeover or a public holiday.

El Cabro operates the coffee service. Treat the café as part of a morning plan, and check the current menu locally rather than relying on an old online food list. Any special exhibition opening or evening event should have its own advertised time.

Getting to FORM in Claremont

Use 4 Shenton Road, Claremont as your destination. FORM's website also displays its organisational office address at 99 St Georges Terrace in Perth; that is a different location.

Claremont Station is beside the gallery. The Transperth JourneyPlanner is the place to check services and any changes affecting your journey. When driving, check the signs on the bay you choose rather than assuming nearby station parking permits a gallery visit.

Access and visiting with children

For step-free access, accessible toilets or other specific requirements, contact FORM on 08 9385 2200 or mail@form.net.au before travelling. The visitor information checked for this guide did not provide enough detail to confirm an access route through every part of the venue.

For children, start with the current exhibition description and decide whether the subject and format suit your family. Keep food and drinks for the café area unless staff advise otherwise, and ask before touching exhibits or photographing artworks.

A morning visit here can leave the afternoon free for another gallery. Check the opening day and exhibition dates before adding a second stop; university galleries and independent spaces do not all follow the same timetable.

Our guides to Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery and Perth art galleries can help you compare other options. Plan the journey between venues separately rather than assuming they are within a short walk of Claremont Station.
