The Swan Valley has room for a family day that is not built around wine. Use a park or one bookable experience as the anchor, then leave time for a picnic and the drive home.
| Option | What children can do | Cost |

Build around Whiteman Park
Whiteman Park has free entry to the park. Start with the grounds and check what is open before adding extras. The heritage tram has its own fare and timetable. Caversham Wildlife Park is a separate ticketed attraction inside the wider Whiteman Park area, with its own hours and rules. Do not count its animals as part of free park entry. A shorter park-only visit still makes a worthwhile family outing.
For other stops, the Swan Valley's family guide and visitor centre provide up-to-date local ideas. Check opening days for an individual business before driving to it; seasonal produce, workshops and tasting arrangements change. Avoid fitting too many venues around a child's meal or nap time.
Make the trip comfortable
Bring water and shade for outdoor sections. If you plan to use public transport, confirm connections with Transperth rather than assuming a train reaches the individual attractions. Look up each attraction's own address for navigation, because “Swan Valley” covers a broad area.
The accompanying licensed photograph shows an animal photographed at Caversham Wildlife Park in 2023; it does not claim a particular species will be on view on the day. For another free park-and-play plan, see outdoor activities.
Pick the anchor first
For a low-cost day, make Whiteman Park the only destination and take a picnic. For a paid day, choose the tram or wildlife park first and fit park time around the booked experience. Check individual opening times: the park, tram and wildlife park do not necessarily follow identical schedules. A stop at the visitor centre can help with alternatives, but it is in Guildford rather than at the gate to every Swan Valley attraction.
