Manning Park combines a lake-side picnic area with a more energetic climb above Hamilton Hill. You can enjoy the lower park without taking the stairs or the limestone Davilak trail. If the view across Cockburn Sound is your reason for going, allow for an uneven climb and changing weather on the ridge.

Two visits from one starting point
The City of Cockburn describes picnic facilities below and the Davilak trail behind Azelia Ley Homestead Museum. Its stairs and lookouts page explains the connection to the ridge viewpoints. Decide at the lake whether everyone in your group wants to climb; the limestone track and stairs are not the same as the lower park’s lawn. The museum is a separate venue, so do not expect it to be open just because the park is available.
Read the trail signs on the hill
The City has discussed trail assessments and management in the upland area. Use marked routes, respect closures and keep clear of fragile bushland instead of following every informal tyre track. After rain, surfaces may be loose or slippery. If you only have an hour, the lake and lower paths offer a worthwhile visit without racing for a lookout. For a different wetland play outing nearby, see Bibra Lake.
