Mandurah can be a relaxed waterfront outing without committing to a cruise or a long sculpture hunt. Start at the foreshore, give the playground time, then decide whether everyone wants another stop.
| Option | Good for | Plan ahead |
|---|---|---|
| Western Foreshore | Playground and open space | Shade, weather and estuary-side supervision |
| Giants of Mandurah | Outdoor art and a shared hunt | Current Traveller's Companion, distances, ground conditions |
| Dolphin cruise | Time on the estuary | Ticket, departure, weather; sightings not guaranteed |

Begin on the foreshore
The City of Mandurah's Western Foreshore has the Koolaanga Waabiny Playground and public open space, with a pedestrian connection to the Eastern Foreshore. Allow children to play before deciding how much sightseeing to add. The water's edge needs active supervision; the playground itself is not a swimming area.
The Giants of Mandurah are large outdoor sculptures by Thomas Dambo, with a free trail. Get the latest official trail material for the locations. Some stops require their own drive and a walk over variable surfaces, so check each approach when bringing a pram or wheelchair. Seeing one Giant is a complete outing for a young child.
If you want to be on the water
Visit Mandurah lists local tours and cruises. They cost money and depend on departure times and conditions; wild dolphins may appear but no sighting is assured. Decide between a boat trip and a Giant rather than making both mandatory on a short day.
Mandurah's railway station is away from the foreshore. Use Transperth to plan the onward bus, taxi or walk before relying on rail for the whole outing. Bring drinking water and a layer for the estuary breeze, and check any sculpture or foreshore notices on the day. Compare family day trips for other options.
Two workable versions of the day
With a toddler, stay close to the foreshore: playground, meal and a short waterside walk. With older children keen on the sculpture trail, pick a Giant from the current guide and travel directly to its stated start point. Look at walking surface and weather before adding another sculpture. The visitor centre is a place to get route advice, not the location of every Giant.
