The Town of Cambridge now calls this reserve Galup, although older maps and directions still use Lake Monger. The lake and surrounding paths are good for an easy walk and birdwatching. Its water is protected wetland habitat, so come for the shore and lookouts rather than a paddle or a fishing trip.

Use the name on today’s signs
The Town of Cambridge describes Galup as a reserve with shared paths, nature trails and birdwatching lookouts. Its name-change announcement explains the restoration of the Whadjuk Noongar name; searching for Lake Monger remains useful for older route information, but Galup is the current official reserve name. Walk at a pace that allows a stop by the northern lookout. Dogs must be on lead in the designated exercise area according to the Town’s facility list.
Keep the wetland for wildlife
The Town explicitly prohibits fishing and water activities, including boats and kayaks, at Galup wetlands. Watch birds from the shore and do not feed them. After rain, a boardwalk or low path may be wet; use another access point rather than crossing a closed section. This is a public reserve with open lawns as well as habitat, so plan the picnic on established grass rather than beside reed beds. For another birdwatching walk, consider Herdsman Lake.
