Royal Perth Hospital Museum is in the hospital's older Murray Street precinct, not in a general admissions foyer. Its objects follow care, illness, medical research and the people who worked there. The museum is free and has a short midweek opening; a hospital's general visitor hours are not the museum's hours.

A hospital through its objects
The hospital museum page places the collection in the 1894 Administration Building near the original 1855 Colonial Hospital. Its displays cover epidemics, nursing, anaesthesia, X-rays and changes in treatment. Among its listed objects are an iron lung and early cold cathode X-ray tubes. Look at what the objects say about patients and staff as well as scientific invention: healthcare did not reach everyone equally or improve all at once.
Find the right part of the precinct
The operator lists Level 2, M Block, Murray Street and provides a site map. Use that map rather than entering a clinical ward or following general hospital patient directions. The museum's own hours are Wednesday and Thursday 9am–2pm. Admission is free; groups need an appointment. If you have a mobility requirement, ask the museum about the current lift route to Level 2 before you set out.
Some historic medical objects and images can be confronting, especially for children or people with experience of illness. Decide how long you want to stay and ask about a quiet route or an exhibit before bringing a group. The licensed photograph shows an iron lung exhibit in 2015; the display arrangement may have changed. For another small city institution, compare the Museum of Perth, which has different opening days.
